The ultimate summer bag

Palm leaf tree grows around the shores of Lake Victoria. Obtaining palm leaf is quite tricky. Using a knife and a long stick with a natural hook at the end,the thorny palm leaves are pulled with a sharp tug until they brak off. It is important to find the young leaves as the are easier to bend. The leaves are then dried in the sun to dry for about 3-4 days depending on the weather and cut into strips. These strips are put into a big pot of water over an open fire and then boiled for a few minutes with different dyes depending on the colour desired.

They are spread agian to dry and then woven into bags, mats or baskets.
