Handcrafted from Sisal

Weaving each basket bag can take up to six days depending on the speed of each individual weaver.  Weaving is done in between other domestic chores like childcare, cooking or farming.

These sisal bags are then sent to a local tannery where cow hide shoulder straps are produced and attached by skilled leatherworkers. The leather used is a by-product of the food industry, otherwise destined for landfill.

Basket weaving is a skill  passed from through generations from grandmothers to mothers to daughters.
